Halloween in Morpeth

Where to go for Halloween in and around Morpeth, led by Whitehouse Farm's big 'Frighthouse Farm' spooktacular and its indoor and outdoor pumpkin patch.

Morpeth.net·

When the clocks are about to change and the evenings draw in, Morpeth has one Halloween destination that stands above the rest, plus plenty more across Northumberland within easy reach. Here is where to go. Dates change every year, so always check each venue for this year's programme and to book.

Frighthouse Farm at Whitehouse Farm

Just outside Morpeth, Whitehouse Farm Centre puts on the biggest family Halloween event in the area. Each late October the farm becomes Frighthouse Farm, and it is a proper day out rather than a quick visit.

The centrepiece is the pick-your-own pumpkin patch, and cleverly there is both an indoor and an outdoor patch, so it goes ahead whatever the Northumberland weather does. Alongside the pumpkins there is a spell school, fancy-dress competitions and free crafts, all pitched squarely at younger children. Braver visitors can take on the optional Walkway of Terror, a scarier walk-through with a spider's lair, catacombs and a graveyard.

Because it is built onto the farm's usual attraction, you also get the animals, the indoor and outdoor play areas and the go-kart track in the same visit. For the full picture of what Whitehouse Farm offers year-round, see our family day out guide.

Pumpkin picking

If it is specifically pumpkins you are after, Whitehouse Farm is the closest patch to Morpeth, but there are several more within a short drive, including big open fields at Brocksbushes near Stocksfield and East Grange near Durham. We have rounded them all up in our guide to pumpkin picking near Newcastle.

Further afield in Northumberland

Morpeth sits within easy reach of some of the region's best Halloween days out. Alnwick Castle and the Alnwick Garden both run family Halloween programmes over half-term, Beamish Museum opens after dark for its atmospheric Halloween Evenings, and there are ghost walks in Newcastle and Alnwick for older children and adults.
