Morpeth Harriers Clinch North East Senior Development League Division Two Title

It has been a summer to remember for Morpeth Harriers & AC. The club has wrapped up the Division Two title in the North East Senior Development League, adding a team trophy to a run of strong individual showings across the region's biggest road races.

The title was confirmed at the third and final round of the track and field campaign, held at Hexham's Wentworth Stadium. Having already won the opening two fixtures, the Harriers rounded off the season with a comfortable margin of victory to make sure of top spot in the division — a well-earned reward for a squad that turns out in depth across the sprints, distances, jumps and throws.

Away from the track, the club's distance runners have been catching the eye all summer. At the Sunderland 5K, twelve Harriers made the trip, led home by Ryan McLeod, who finished fourth overall and first in the M40 category. At the Newcastle 10K, Robert Balmbra was first back for the club, with James Higgin close behind and young Daniel Craig taking a strong under-20 placing.

The club also enjoyed a good day on home roads at the Morpeth 10K, where Ryan McLeod took the win outright, with Liam Bartle second and clubmates filling several of the age-group placings. Taken together, it is the kind of all-round form — team success on the track and individual results on the road — that points to a club in good health.
