If you run a small business in or around Morpeth, or are thinking of starting one, there is a fully funded day of practical advice just down the road this month, open to members of the Northumberland Small Business Service. The Northumberland Enterprise Festival is back for its third year, and its South East Northumberland day takes place at the Rivergreen Centre at St Mary's Park, Stannington, on Wednesday 11 November.

The festival is run by the Northumberland Small Business Service (NSBS), with Northumberland County Council as lead delivery partner, as reported by the Hexham Courant. It is fully funded through the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority's Rural Growth Programme and Integrated Settlement.

The Morpeth day

The South East Northumberland event runs from 9.30am to 3.30pm at The Rivergreen Centre, St Mary's Lane, St Mary's Park, Stannington, Morpeth NE61 6BL.

This year's theme is "Know Your Business", and the day is built around four strands:

  • Know Your Market: finding your ideal customers, market research and sizing up competitors
  • Know Your Numbers: costing, pricing, cash flow and basic accounts
  • Know Yourself: overcoming imposter syndrome, resilience, mindset and networking
  • Know Your Responsibilities: tax, insurance, GDPR and record keeping

There will also be networking and the chance to meet business support organisations. NSBS programme manager Lucy Evermore said the festival helps owners "work on their business, not just in it".

Best for:

The festival is for members of the Northumberland Small Business Service. If you are not yet registered, check your eligibility and sign up on the NSBS website first, then book your place through the event page.

How to book

Places are booked through the Northumberland Small Business Service website: log in to the members' area, or register first if you are new. You can also email business@businessnorthumberland.co.uk with questions.

The other festival days

If 11 November does not suit, the festival also visits Brocksbushes near Stocksfield in the Tyne Valley on Tuesday 10 November, and Charlton Hall near Alnwick on Thursday 12 November, both with the same 9.30am to 3.30pm timings.
