This is a landmark weekend for Morpeth. Fair Day celebrates its 40th anniversary with 30,000 visitors expected on the streets, the Miners Picnic returns to Woodhorn for its 160th year, and a Viking market takes over Bamburgh Castle. Here is what is happening from Friday to Sunday.

Morpeth Fair Day -- 40th Anniversary

Saturday 14 June in Morpeth town centre. FREE. The biggest day in Morpeth's calendar marks its 40th anniversary this year. Expect live music, fairground rides, street performers, market stalls, and a parade through the town centre. Around 30,000 people are expected to fill the streets. Shops, pubs, and cafes will be open all day. If you only go to one event this weekend, make it this one.

Northumberland Miners Picnic -- Woodhorn

Friday 13 June at Woodhorn Museum, Ashington. FREE. The Northumberland Miners Picnic celebrates 160 years of solidarity and community this year. Brass bands, colliery banners, speeches, and stalls make this an unmissable day out, and it is just ten minutes down the road from Morpeth.

The Bebbanburg Market -- Bamburgh Castle

Friday 13 to Saturday 14 June at Bamburgh Castle. A Viking-themed artisan market set in the grounds of one of England's most dramatic castles. Browse handmade crafts, watch living history demonstrations, and enjoy the spectacular Northumberland coastline.

Tynemouth Station Market

Saturday and Sunday at Tynemouth Station. FREE entry. The popular weekend market under the Victorian canopy, with handmade crafts, vintage finds, street food, and live music. Around 40 minutes from Morpeth by car.

Indian Cookery Workshop -- Blackfriars Newcastle

Saturday 14 June at Blackfriars, Newcastle. Learn to cook authentic Indian dishes in the atmospheric 13th-century Dominican friary. All ingredients provided, and you eat what you make. A rewarding hands-on Saturday.

Heritage Train Rides -- Stephenson Steam Railway Opening Day

Saturday 14 June at the Stephenson Steam Railway, North Shields. The 2026 season opens with steam-hauled train rides. A great family outing, especially for young railway enthusiasts.
