Morpeth is not short of places to get a decent portion of fish and chips. Whether you want to sit down with a pot of tea and eat off a plate, grab a takeaway wrapped in paper on your way home, or order delivery to your door, the town has options to suit. Here is our guide to the best fish and chips in Morpeth.

Fish and Chips at No10

Fish and Chips at No10 at 10 New Market is the closest thing Morpeth has to a proper fish and chip restaurant. Unlike a traditional takeaway counter, No10 offers table service in a small dining room, so you can sit down and eat your fish supper with a knife and fork rather than balancing a polystyrene tray on your lap.

The menu centres on freshly battered fish and hand-cut chips, cooked to order. They also offer a gluten-free menu on Saturdays, using a separate dedicated fryer to avoid cross-contact -- a genuine consideration rather than a token gesture. Takeaway and home delivery are available too.

No10 is open from 11:30am to 9pm and takes table bookings, which is worth doing on Friday and Saturday evenings when it gets busy. The New Market location puts it a short walk from Sanderson Arcade and the main car parks.

Best for: Dine-in fish and chip restaurant on New Market, freshly cooked to order, gluten-free options on Saturdays, takeaway and delivery available.

Maylia's Fish & Chips

Maylia's Fish & Chips at 10 Newgate Street is the traditional chippy in the heart of Morpeth. It is a straightforward takeaway -- no tables, no frills -- and has been feeding the town for years.

Maylia's holds a five-star food hygiene rating from Northumberland County Council, which is reassuring if nothing else. The menu covers the standard chip shop fare: cod, haddock, sausages, pies, and all the usual sides. Prices are reasonable and portions are honest. The shop also does delivery and kerbside pickup.

Opening hours run from 4pm to 9pm, Tuesday to Sunday, with Mondays off. The Newgate Street location makes it easy to reach on foot from anywhere in the town centre. If you want a no-nonsense chippy tea without any fuss, Maylia's is the one.

Best for: Traditional takeaway chippy on Newgate Street, five-star food hygiene rating, closed Mondays, delivery available.

Arora's Fish & Chips

Arora's at 3 Second Avenue on the Stobhill estate is slightly outside the town centre but well worth the short drive or walk. It is a firm favourite with locals on the estate and beyond, regularly praised for its crispy batter, generous portions, and friendly service.

As well as the usual fish and chips, Arora's serves pizza and offers halal options -- useful if you are feeding a family with different dietary needs. You can order online for collection or delivery through their own website or via Just Eat.

The shop is open from Tuesday to Sunday. If you live on the Stobhill or Loansdean side of Morpeth, Arora's is your nearest chippy and arguably one of the best in town.

Best for: Popular chippy on the Stobhill estate, crispy batter, halal and pizza options, online ordering for delivery and collection.

Which chippy should you choose?

It depends what you are after:

  • Sitting down for a meal -- Fish and Chips at No10 is the only option with a proper dining room and table service.
  • Quick takeaway in the town centre -- Maylia's on Newgate Street is the most central and the most traditional.
  • Stobhill and south Morpeth -- Arora's on Second Avenue is the local choice, with a wider menu including pizza and halal food.
  • Gluten-free -- No10 is the only chippy in Morpeth offering a dedicated gluten-free frying day (Saturdays).
  • Delivery -- all three offer home delivery, either directly or through apps.
