Best Summer Sports Camps in Morpeth
Multi-sports camps at Morpeth CHTC, a family-run camp at King Edward VI, football at Craik Park and more -- where to keep children active over the remaining weeks of the summer holidays.
With the Northumberland summer holidays already under way and running through to early September, there is still plenty of time to book a sports camp and give the children a few active days out of the house. Morpeth is well served: from a two-astro multi-sports club just east of town to a family-run camp at King Edward VI and football sessions at Craik Park, there is something to suit most ages and interests. Here is our guide to the summer sports camps in and around Morpeth for the weeks that remain.
Multi-Sports Camp at Morpeth Cricket, Hockey & Tennis Club
CDL Sport runs its popular multi-sports camps at Morpeth Cricket, Hockey & Tennis Club at Longhirst, in the grounds of Longhirst Hall just east of town. It is one of the best-equipped venues in the area, with an astro hockey pitch, tennis courts, and a cricket field and nets.
Camps run for children aged 5 to 12, from 9:30am to 3:30pm, with the day filled by cricket, hockey, tennis, rugby, football, athletics, golf, dodgeball, SAQ, and team games. Children are split into age and ability groups, and the coaches are DBS-checked, first-aid trained, and experienced.
For the remaining summer weeks in 2026, camps are scheduled for Thursday 30 and Friday 31 July, Tuesday 11 to Thursday 13 August, Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 August, and Monday 25 to Wednesday 27 August. Prices are £30 per day or £50 for the week, and you book online through the CDL Sport ClassForKids page. Bring a packed lunch (the club is nut-free), a refillable water bottle, sunscreen, and clean trainers.
Best for: A proper multi-sport day out on excellent facilities for ages 5 to 12. Longhirst, Morpeth, NE61 3LL.
Morpeth Holiday Camp
Morpeth Holiday Camp is a family-run camp based in the sports hall at The King Edward VI School on Cottingwood Lane. Built around a "play, move and learn" ethos, it is led by an experienced teacher and coach and aims to keep children active while helping them make friends and build confidence.
The programme mixes team games, sports, and creative challenges, with activities adapted for children of all abilities. A nice touch is that the children themselves have a say in shaping the day, so no two sessions are quite the same. Drop-off and collection are inside the school entrance, marked by the camp's circular logo.
Places and current summer dates are best confirmed directly, as they are booked through the camp's own platform. Email info@morpethholidaycamp.co.uk or see the Morpeth Holiday Camp website for the latest availability and prices.
Best for: An indoor, all-weather option in a modern sports hall, with children helping to shape the activities. The King Edward VI School, Morpeth.
Football with Morpeth Town AFC Juniors
For football-mad children, Morpeth Town AFC Juniors runs school-holiday camps at Craik Park, home of the town's football club. The junior section fields teams for boys and girls from under-7s through to under-17s, so the coaching is geared to a wide range of ages and abilities.
Holiday camps are a good way for children to get a concentrated block of football over the break, whether they already play for a team or simply fancy a few days of games and skills. Places are booked by email at holidaycamps@morpethtownafc.com, so get in touch to confirm the remaining summer dates and cost.
Best for: Holiday football at the town's own ground for boys and girls of all abilities. Craik Park, Morpeth.
Gymnastics Camps with First Gymnastics
If your child prefers the beam and the bars to a ball, First Gymnastics Morpeth runs recreational gymnastics classes and holiday camps for children aged 4 to 12. The sessions are designed to build core skills, strength, coordination, flexibility, and confidence, and suit all abilities rather than just budding competitors.
Camps book up quickly in the holidays, so check current availability and dates on the club's ClassForKids listing before the remaining weeks fill.
Best for: A great choice for children who love gymnastics or want to try it, ages 4 to 12.
Holiday Activities at Morpeth Sports and Leisure Centre
While not a traditional drop-off sports camp, Morpeth Sports and Leisure Centre on Gas House Lane runs a range of holiday activities that can fill the days between camps. There are public and family swim sessions, intensive swimming lessons during some school holidays, and a two-storey castle-themed soft play area for younger children.
The centre also hosts swimming, sports, and soft play parties if you have a summer birthday to mark. Session times and holiday programmes change, so check the Places Leisure app or call 01670 620200 to plan your week.
Best for: Swimming, soft play, and holiday sessions to fill the gaps between camps. Gas House Lane, NE61 1SR.
A Nearby Option: Next Generation NE Sport at Ponteland
If you are happy to travel a little towards Newcastle, Next Generation NE Sport runs a well-established six-week summer programme, with its nearest venue to Morpeth at Ponteland Community Primary School (running there in weeks 2, 4, and 6). The camps take children aged 5 to 13 from 8:45am to 3:30pm and cover a wide spread of sports. You can find dates and booking on the Next Generation website or by calling 07885 379410.
Another nearby option is Northumbria Sport's kids camps at Sport Central in Newcastle, which run through to late August for ages 6 to 11 and include daily swimming and climbing alongside the usual team sports.
Choosing the right camp
- For variety and top facilities, the multi-sports camp at Morpeth Cricket, Hockey & Tennis Club is hard to beat, with a genuine spread of sports across a full day.
- For an all-weather, town-centre option, Morpeth Holiday Camp's indoor sports hall keeps things running whatever the Northumberland skies decide to do.
- For a football specialist, Morpeth Town AFC Juniors offers concentrated coaching at the town's own ground.
- For gymnasts, First Gymnastics runs camps for ages 4 to 12.
Whichever you choose, book early -- the best-value weeks fill fast once the holidays are under way.
