Spotlight: FIKA Gallery & Workshops

Part gallery, part cafe, part creative studio — FIKA on Oldgate Street brings together local art, all-day brunch and hands-on workshops steps from the Clock Tower.

Morpeth has no shortage of independent shops, but few combine as many elements under one roof as FIKA Gallery & Workshops. Located at 1-3 Oldgate Street, right beside the Clock Tower, FIKA operates as an art gallery, a cafe serving all-day brunch and quality coffee, and a creative workshop space — all with a relaxed, Scandi-inspired aesthetic.

The gallery showcases work from more than thirty local artists from across the North East, with exhibitions rotating regularly. It is a genuine selling gallery, so visitors can take home original artwork, prints and handmade pieces directly. Artists interested in exhibiting are welcome to get in touch — the space actively supports the regional creative community.

The dedicated studio space, which can accommodate up to twelve people, hosts a varied programme of workshops led by experienced tutors. Sessions range from pottery and painting to jewellery making, wreath workshops and popular paint-and-sip evenings. Each workshop is designed to be accessible regardless of previous experience, making them ideal for beginners, date nights or group outings.

Downstairs, the cafe serves Pink Lane Bakery cakes alongside speciality coffee, creating a natural spot to linger after browsing the gallery or before a workshop begins.

FIKA fills a gap in Morpeth's cultural offering — somewhere that makes art feel approachable and sociable rather than intimidating. Whether you visit to buy a painting, try your hand at ceramics, or simply enjoy good coffee surrounded by local creativity, it is a welcome addition to Oldgate Street.
