Hexham Town Council puts on the town's fireworks display on The Sele, the park below the abbey. It is free to attend, with a bucket collection on the night, and a samba band usually warms the crowd up from around 6.30pm before the display at 7pm.\n\nOne thing to know if you have been before: there is no longer a bonfire. The bonfire was dropped from 2023 over permits and organisation, and the event has been fireworks-only since — deliberately quieter and choreographed to music, which suits younger children and anyone who finds the bangs difficult.\n\nThe display had been run for around seventy years by Hexham Round Table, which wound down its involvement as membership fell; the Town Council took it on in 2023.
