From charity shops on Bridge Street to park conservation and the Chantry, here is how to volunteer in Morpeth.

Morpeth.net·

Morpeth has a strong tradition of community volunteering, from the charity shops clustered on Bridge Street and Newgate Street to conservation groups maintaining Carlisle Park and the riverside. Here is the guide to getting involved.

Charity Shops

Morpeth has at least six charity shops, all of which welcome volunteers:

British Red Cross at Sanderson Arcade -- boutique-style charity shop selling clothing, shoes, books, homeware, and household items.

British Heart Foundation at 49 Bridge Street -- second-hand clothes, books, toys, homewares, shoes, and accessories. Volunteers are welcome to upskill, keep busy, or meet new people.

St Oswald's Hospice on Bridge Street -- books, clothing, furniture, homeware, and music. All profits support the North East hospice.

Barnardos on Bridge Street.

Cancer Research UK in Morpeth -- interested volunteers can complete an online application form.

Children North East at 42 Bridge Street -- the charity's flagship shop, open Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 4pm. Offers volunteer retail assistant roles supporting vulnerable children in the region.

Best for: Morpeth's six charity shops are always looking for volunteers -- from sorting donations to serving customers. A few hours a week makes a real difference.

Friends of Carlisle Park

Friends of Carlisle Park help maintain Morpeth's beautiful Carlisle Park, organising litter picks, planting sessions, and community events. The park covers 20 acres along the River Wansbeck and has a paddling pool, play areas, and a sensory garden.

Morpeth Parkrun

Volunteering at Morpeth parkrun is one of the easiest ways to get involved locally. Roles include course set-up, marshalling, barcode scanning, and tail walking. No experience needed and families are welcome. Check the parkrun website for details.
