A round-up of things to do in and around Morpeth this weekend, Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 May 2026.
Carlisle Park Parkrun — Saturday 9:00am
The weekly Carlisle Park parkrun takes place every Saturday morning at 9:00am. The free, timed 5k route winds through Carlisle Park on a mixture of tarmac and trail paths, taking in three laps of the park and two out-and-back sections along the River Wansbeck. All abilities are welcome, including walkers. Register once at parkrun.org.uk and bring your barcode.
Best for: The start is near the park entrance off Castle Square. Use postcode NE61 1PR for sat nav.
The Parlour at Blagdon Wedding Fair — Sunday 12:00pm
The Parlour at Blagdon hosts a free wedding fair on Sunday 10 May, from 12:00pm to 3:00pm. No booking is required — simply turn up to meet local wedding suppliers, tour the venue, and pick up a brochure. A complimentary glass of fizz is included on arrival.
Whitehouse Farm Centre — Open Daily
Whitehouse Farm near Stannington is open daily from 10:00am to 5:00pm throughout the spring and summer. With over 40 acres of animals, outdoor play areas, small animal handling, bird of prey displays, and tractor rides, it is one of the best family days out near Morpeth. Lambing season activities may still be running — check their website for the latest details.
Cragside — Rhododendron Season Begins
May is when the famous rhododendron displays at Cragside near Rothbury begin to come into bloom. The Rock Garden typically flowers first, followed by the wider grounds over a five-week window stretching into June. The house and estate are open daily from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Entry is free for National Trust members; otherwise adults pay around 23 pounds and children 11.50 pounds.
Best for: Standing on the Iron Bridge and looking up at the house surrounded by rhododendrons in bloom is one of the great Northumberland views.
Wallington Hall and Gardens
Wallington, the National Trust estate between Morpeth and Cambo, is open this weekend with its walled garden, woodland walks, cycle trails, and adventure play areas. The house itself has a remarkable collection of Pre-Raphaelite paintings and ceramics. A good option for a half-day trip from Morpeth.
Carlisle Park and the Wansbeck Riverside
If you would rather stay local, Carlisle Park is looking its best in May. The William Turner Garden is in full spring colour, the aviary is open, and the riverside walk towards Mitford through the ancient woodland is one of the finest short walks in Northumberland. The Pavilion Cafe in the park serves hot drinks and light meals.
Navigation Skills Course — Rothbury, Saturday
Northumberland National Park is running an Introduction to Navigation course on Saturday 9 May, starting from Rothbury Riverside Car Park. A chance to learn map and compass skills in the stunning surroundings of the Coquet Valley. Check the Northumberland National Park website for booking details.
