Best Places to Work Remotely in Morpeth
From a free library with public Wi-Fi to roomy town-centre cafes and an early-opening station cafe, here is where to set up a laptop for a few hours in Morpeth.
Working from home suits most days, but every so often the kitchen table loses its charm. Morpeth is a compact market town, which works in a remote worker's favour: the library, the Sanderson Arcade and a good run of cafes on Bridge Street and Oldgate are all within a few minutes' walk of each other, and the railway station is close enough for a morning session before a train. Here is the local knowledge on where to set up for a few hours.
A word on etiquette first. Most of the places below are busy cafes rather than workspaces, so the usual rules apply: buy something every hour or two, avoid hogging a big table at lunchtime, and take calls outside. Do that and you will be welcome back.
Morpeth Library
For free, quiet working space, start with Morpeth Library. Run by Northumberland County Library Service and now housed in Morpeth Sports and Leisure Centre on Gas House Lane, it offers free Wi-Fi, public computers and affordable printing, with no pressure to buy anything. That makes it the obvious base for a focused morning, an online exam or anything that needs a printer.
It is a community library rather than a silent study hall, so expect children's sessions and group activities at certain times, and there is no table-service coffee. Opening hours vary by day, so check with the library (01670 620391) or the Northumberland Libraries website before you plan a full day around it.
Best for: Free Wi-Fi, public computers and printing, at zero cost.
Cafes in the town centre
Gran Caffe Lollo
Gran Caffe Lollo at 38 Bridge Street is the roomiest cafe in the town centre. Opened in 2024 by the team behind neighbouring Lollo Rosso, it fills the former Barclays bank building with 96 seats, which gives you a much better chance of finding a table outside the lunchtime peak than in the smaller tea rooms. It is open seven days a week, with Italian roasted coffee, breakfasts, brunches and lunches, and cakes and pastries made by its own pastry team. Ideal if you want to stay through to lunch without moving.
Best for: Space to spread out, a full menu, and seven-day opening.
Central Bean Coffee House
Tucked inside the Sanderson Arcade at number 21, Central Bean Coffee House is the pick for coffee quality. It opens at 8am Monday to Saturday (until 5pm) and 9am to 4pm on Sundays, so it is one of the earlier options for getting a couple of hours in before the town wakes up. The covered arcade setting is sheltered and calm on a wet weekday, and you are steps from the shops if you need to run an errand at lunchtime.
Best for: Good coffee and an 8am start in the shelter of the arcade.
The Morpeth Larder
Also in the Sanderson Arcade, at Unit 1a, The Morpeth Larder combines a coffee shop with a well-stocked delicatessen. It serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and afternoon tea, which makes it a practical place to work across a whole day and pick up something for dinner from the deli counter on the way out. Worth pairing with Central Bean if you want a change of scene without leaving the arcade.
Best for: A deli lunch at your table and a change of scene from the arcade's other cafe.
FIKA Gallery
FIKA Gallery at 1-3 Oldgate, right beside the Clock Tower, is a Scandi-inspired cafe and contemporary art gallery. It serves speciality coffee, all-day brunch and Pink Lane Bakery cakes, and is open seven days a week from 9am. Surrounded by work from more than thirty North East artists, it is a pleasant, creative setting for lighter tasks such as emails, planning or writing, though it gets busy at weekends. It is also one of our favourite coffee shops in Morpeth in its own right.
Best for: A creative setting for writing and planning, open seven days.
Costa Coffee
When you want the familiar, Costa Coffee at 22-24 Bridge Street is the Morpeth branch of the national chain. The comfortable sit-in seating and predictable menu make it a dependable fallback when the independents are full, and its central position means it is never far from wherever your next meeting is.
Best for: A reliable fallback right in the middle of Bridge Street.
Greens Café at the station
For commuters and early starters, Greens Café inside Morpeth Railway Station on Station Road is hard to beat on hours. It opens at 6am on weekdays (until 5.30pm), 6.45am on Saturdays and 7.30am on Sundays, serving cooked breakfasts, lunches, sandwiches, coffee and home-made cakes. It was shortlisted for Café of the Year in the 2026 My Local Awards, and it is dog-friendly too. It is perfect for clearing your inbox before a train, or for working the first hour of a hybrid day before heading into the office. Our guide to commuting from Morpeth to Newcastle covers the train side of that day.
Best for: The earliest start in town, right on the platform.
Coworking and desk space
Morpeth does not have a dedicated drop-in coworking hub on the scale of a city centre, so most remote workers here mix the library with the cafes above. If you need something more permanent, such as a serviced desk, a small office or a meeting room, Advance Northumberland manages commercial workspace across the county and local commercial agents handle first-floor offices in the town centre. Our guide to business support in Morpeth explains where to start. For a full coworking membership, the nearest options are in Newcastle city centre, around 15 to 20 minutes away by train.
A remote worker's day in Morpeth
Start at Greens Café or Central Bean for an early coffee and your first focused hour. Move to Morpeth Library for a quiet, free session with Wi-Fi and a printer on hand. Then finish at Gran Caffe Lollo or The Morpeth Larder for a late lunch and an afternoon of lighter work. Total spend: a few coffees and a sandwich, a lot less than a desk rental.
